Depaul Ireland

The main focus of Depaul Ireland's work is to support vulnerable people experiencing homelessness and people who are at risk of homelessness and marginalisation. Depaul support each individual and family with the opportunity to fulfil their potential and move forward towards an independent and positive future.

In line with their objectives, Depaul offer a number of services including Low Threshold and Harm Reduction Services. These offer a 24/7 service including accommodation and professional support to people with acute addictions and complex needs who are experiencing homelessness. The Family Services offer a 24/7 service including accommodation and professional support to vulnerable families and single parents with children. The Community & Outreach Services provide both formal and informal social support to people in the community with addiction issues, who are at risk of homelessness to facilitate early intervention in order to prevent the loss of tenancies. Depaul use a case management approach supporting individuals with complex needs. The Criminal Justice Services offer a 24/7 service including accommodation and professional support to people who have been involved with the criminal justice system and have experiences of imprisonment. Depaul support those with complex needs who would otherwise experience homelessness upon leaving prison to reintegrate into the community and address the issues experienced through imprisonment.

Depaul Ireland was established in 2001, as the result of an invitation by local and central government in Ireland, who were keen to build on Depaul's expertise in the UK in working with people who are homeless. It was sponsored by members of the Vincentian Family with the objective of providing similar help and support for homeless and disadvantaged people in Dublin and throughout Ireland.

Mercy Law Resource Centre provides free legal advice clinics to residents of Depaul Backlane on Housing and Social Welfare Law issues, every Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m., at Depaul Hostel, Backlane, Christchurch, Dublin 8.  Appointments for residents should be made only via Depaul Backlane.
